Where we are

Info

The Department of Surgery is located in S. Chiara Hospital, quite close at hand to the Piazza Dei Miracoli. The building which contains it is the old one that is known as "Clinica Chirurgica" (Surgical Clinic); the "Clinica Chirurgica" has two different entrance doors: one in Via Roma, the other in Via Bonanno (where the First Aids Unit is located).

The Emergency Surgery Unit has its Secretariat at the III Floor of the above-mentioned building (tel: ++39-050-992423-555434, fax ++39-050-550593) and its wards at the III floor (tel: ++39-050-992590/992184).

The Unit can be easily reached in ten-minute time by bus (either from the Train Station and from the Airport), or, if preferred, by taxi (050 541600).

Further information about the town of Pisa can be found on the on-line site of the COMUNE DI PISA (Pisa Town-Hall).

The town can be easily reached both by TRAIN and by PLANE.

Travelling by car on the motor-way, we suggest the exits PISA NORD and PISA CENTRO; once out of the motor-way, please pay attention to the signs indicating "Piazza dei Miracoli" and "Ospedale". As for car-parks, there is one in Piazza Manin, near the hospital.

With respect to accommodation, there are several hotels in the surroundings of the hospital (some of them are a few yards away from the Hospital area).

For any
emergency, please call directly ++39050-992590-992184, asking for the "Medico di Guardia" (the m. d. in charge). Usually, common activities in the Unit begin at 7:30 every day.

Regarding the waiting lists of patients in election, they are continuously up-dated and can be consulted on the noticeboards at the entrance of the Unit’s ward. For minor and common illnesses, the wait can be very long.

The Emergency Surgery Unit is a Division of the "Pisa University General Surgery", where research and didactic activities are daily carried out.

In the Unit’s Ward, each patient is given an adequate form called "informed consent form".

Whenever they are allowed - and in any case compatibly with their schedules - all the doctors of the Ward and the Director in person are happy to provide personal, straightforward information. No piece of information concerning the state of a patient will be communicated via fax, e-mail or telephone.

As for the activities at the Unit’s surgery and at the First Aid, please consult the corresponding pages.
