Prophile (Who we are)

| UTI
is the acronymus of "Unità di Terapia Intensiva Post Chirurgica e
Trapianti" (Transplant and Post Surgery Intensive
Therapy Unit). It is a part of the Anesthesia and
Critical Care Dpt n° 1 of
the Pisa NHS Trust in Pisa, Italy.
The city of Pisa hosts one of the
oldest and most famous medical and surgical schools in
Italy and Europe. Pisa
NHS Trust if formed by S. Chiara Hospitals & Clinics
, located right back-door to the most famous "Leaning
Tower of Pisa", and by Cisanello
Hospital, in the city's North-Est suburbs. Pisa NHS
Trust manages 1605 hospital beds, 34 of
them are ICU beds.
UTI is located at the
Hospital of Cisanello, where the Staff manages 4 post
surgical fully monitored and ventilator provided beds
plus 4 more fully-gadgeted ICU beds dedicated only to the
Transplant activities. Besides ICU
activity, the medical staff is involved in the
anesthesiological support to 4 surgical units: General,
Vascular, Plastic (recostructive, hand surgery, maxillo
surgery) and Transplant (Liver, Kidney, Pancreas).
UTI is part of the NHS
Teaching Plan and holds a Residency programme in
collaboration with the Anaesthesia & Intensive Care
Post Graduate School of the University of Pisa; for the 2002/2003 academic year
